Gazania

The gazania, which is native to South Africa is also called sun-catcher. These sun-loving daisy shaped flowers, with vividly-colored petals, wow the eyes. They look pretty in containers, beds, borders, and as ground-cover.  They come in rich shades of yellow, pink, purple, bronze, white, orange, red and coral.  They love our Texas heat!  They bloom from summer to winter.  They are tolerant of drought and poor soil.

These plants bloom in all their glory during sunny seasons. It doesn’t need any pampering and can survive with basic needs.  Gazania likes full sun, well-drained soil, and water.   I’ll also point out that gazania needs watering only when the conditions are dry. Just like any other flowering plants, they will thrive in good soil, but can tolerate poor soil.

Easter Baskets

What kind of Easter Baskets are you putting up this year?  I know you must think I’m confused, Easter Baskets are for kids and hunting eggs.  Well my thought is, once you’re an adult spring hanging baskets take the place of Easter Baskets.  I love adding spring color to my yard with hanging baskets.  I love how the Easter egg colors of flowers in spring make my yard come alive.

Sunpatiens

I have found a new plant that I absolutely love!  Sunpatiens are actually impatiens that can handle the Texas sun!  I know what you are thinking, this must be a garden myth.  Well, it’s not!  If you love the brilliant color of impatiens but don’t have the perfect shady spot in your yard this plant is for you!  The growers have come up with a hardy plant that  still has that delicate look of impatiens.  They are easy to care for and make a great addition to your landscape.

Lemon Tree

The scent of citrus that a lemon tree brings evokes memories of summer.  That smell makes me think of Lemonade and sitting on the porch for hours.  Lemon trees are perfect for being grown in an urban setting, since they do well in containers or planted in the ground.  They are easy to care for and can create a lovely focal point for the yard.  Citrus is an evergreen with white blossoms that can be tinged with pink or yellow.  They don’t need pruning but can be shaped if desired.  Make this addition to your yard and harvest fresh lemon to add to drinks and dishes all summer long.  Come into the garden center and have one of our gardeners help you pick the best variety for your yard!

Salsa Time

Salsa Time is upon us! Spring is here and it’s time to get tomatoes and peppers planted.  You want to have all the essentials to make salsa.  If there is one thing we can all agree on, tomatoes and peppers grown at home just taste better!.  There are so many varieties, it makes it hard to choose. You might love, Celebrity tomatoes, while your friend swears by Juliette tomatoes.  I may love Bell Peppers and my neighbor may choose Gypsy Peppers!  When you plant your tomatoes and bell peppers you might want to add cilantro, basil and oregano as well.  Tomatoes, Peppers and herbs are great companions and thrive when planted together.
